General Information:
Rhode Island has a "semi-closed" primary. To vote in the state-wide Democratic primary, you must either:

register as a Democrat, or
-
remain Unaffiliated
All voters registered with other parties must de-register or change their party affiliation by the voter registration deadline on August 10th.

Voter Registration:
Voter registration for the primary is now closed. Only voters registered in the Ward who either have no party affiliation or are registered as Democrats will be allowed to vote in the September 9th primary. Click here to view your voter information.
Mail-in Ballots:
Mail Ballot Requests are now closed.

If you requested your ballot by mail, your mail ballot must be received by the Board of Elections by 8pm on election day, Wednesday, September 9th. If you mail your ballot, please mail it by September 1st to give it plenty of transit time.
Ā
In an emergency, you can also deliver your ballot to your polling site!
Early Voting:
Early voting is open beginning on August 20th at City Hall, 25 Dorrance Street, Room 101.

Free car parking will be available adjacent City Hall on Washington Street.
- Bus riders can take transit via any RIPTA bus to Kennedy Plaza.
- Bicycle parking can be found on the south side of city hall on Fulton Street.āā

Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:00pm

Hours extended until 4:30pm the week before the election

Hours extended until 7:00pm on Thursday Aug 27th and Thursday Sept 3rd

Saturday and Sunday, Aug 29th and 30th from 9:00am-1:00pm

Note: Normal hours return (8:30am-4:00pm) on the final early voting day (Tuesday, Sept 8th).

Bring a valid photo ID with you! You must have a valid photo ID in order to vote in person.Ā Valid IDs include:

Rhode Island driver's license/permit

US passport
-
ID card issued by any federally recognized tribal government
-
ID card issued by an educational institution in the United States
-
US military identification card
-
ID card issued by the US government or State of Rhode Island (RIPTA bus pass, etc.)

Government issued medical card
-
Rhode Island Voter ID card
Please note that RI Driving Privilege Cards or Permits are not acceptable forms of Voter IDs.
NOTE: Out-of-state driver's license/permit cards DO NOT count as valid forms of ID in Rhode Island elections.
